We left our motherland of Costa Mesa, California Saturday night and headed East towards Niland, California - home of Salvation Mountain, The Salton Sea, and Slab City. If you've seen the movie Into The Wild, you might recall a scene with a certain actress from Twighlight (I'm not a Twighlight fan, but I do know who Bella is..) playing a guitar strummin' gypsy vagabond at Slab City. Emile Hirsch's character also visits Salvation Mountain, an art-piece and dedication to God made by folk artist Leonard Knight. He built the entire mountain, adorned with Bible verses and flowers, by hand from a mixture of adobe clay found in the desert and hay. People drop off house paint and Leonard does his thing - the result is amazing.
