BIRTHDAY HOUR BY HOUR

On my birthday this year my friend Sarah and I went into Brooklyn for the day. I've been thinking about moving back to the East Coast from California for a while now and while I've been home for the holidays I've been checking out nearby cities. Brooklyn was on the top of my list because I like to go hipster watching, but realistically I can't to live there at the moment (I live in a trailer, afterall!) Even so, I wanted to take a look just to see if is actually a place where I'd like to live someday. I decided to try something new to commemorate my 26th, something I like to call "birthday hour by hour". What's that? It's pretty simple, but I thought it might be fun! I took one photo every hour on the hour for twelve hours. It's fun to look back on the events of the day this way. If you try it out, let me know! A big thank you to Sarah and my Brooklyn local friend Mike for spending my birthday with me! And an extra special thanks to Sarah for treking around with me for a full half day! I had a blast!! Here's a peek into my day of birth:

december 31, 2010 // so long 2010!

Today has been a lovely last day of 2010 so far. My friend Sarah (who's visiting from Montana and who I will be living with for a month there while I write and illustrate my children's book) and I went for a walk at Todd's Point, the local beach, and drank tea from Arcadia Coffee, our favorite local coffee shop. I can't even count how many ideas and thoughts we've talked about over coffee at that place.. So many good memories.

Tonight I'm heading to Brooklyn for a friend's party, which should be awesome! I'm going to bring a pie to the extravaganza that I made yesterday. I decided to try recreating a favorite dessert of mine from Native Foods - the vegan restaurant I used to work at in California. It's called Chocolate Tofu Love Pie and it's a-maz-ing. I know that tofu and chocolate sound like a really gross combination, but the pie is magical.. seriously. Unfortunately, the recipe is top secret, but I have a general idea of what's in it from it's title.. what I didn't know about the recipe, I filled in with recipes from the internet. I made mine with a peanut butter twist and an almond crust. I'm really happy with how it turned out, but I probably won't tell anyone that it's made of tofu until after they've eaten it! The recipe I used is completely vegan and totally DELICIOUS. I used an almond crust recipe that I found without changing anything and I replaced the dried cherries in a filling recipe I found with peanut butter. Here are the recipes I used... Crust // Filling
