december 18, 2010 // channeling nancy

I'm going to be 25 in a little over two weeks and I still don't completely feel like a woman. No..no.. I don't feel like a man.. What I'm saying is that I still feel like a little girl in a lot of ways. I'm trying to be more independent and in the last year I've definitely taken on more "grown up" responsibilities, but I honestly get mistaken for a teenager at least once a week. I know.. it's a good thing to look young.. and yes, I'm sure that I'll appreciate it when I'm older.. but when you're in your early twenties and getting a taste of the adult world for the first time, the last thing that you want to be seen as is a kid. I have tried dressing older here and there, but I usually end up looking more like a granny with a good face lift than a sophisticated young woman about town. I know there's a balance somewhere - a love child of girly and mature.. but I'm having a hard time finding it. I've always loved 60's style and music.. and one of my favorite songs is "These Boots Are Made For Walking" by Nancy Sinatra. I watched the video today and couldn't help but be impressed by Nancy's style. Yes, it's a little scandalous..definitely not something I'd wear to Christmas dinner.. BUT I love the vibe the look gives off (yes, I said vibe). Here's to new boots for the New Year??
