NUGGETS OF WISDOM: FRED SEIBERT
My friend Ashley and I spent some time earlier this week chatting with the wonderful and amazing Fred Seibert. To give those of you who don't know about Fred (why wouldn't you?!) a point of reference, here are a few of the many items on his resume -- MTV's first creative director, former president of Hanna-Barbera and founder of Frederator Studios (the folks behind Adventure Time!) -- pretty awesome, huh? Fred was kind enough to spend some of his busy day hanging out via Google+ (technology is so cool!) and answering some of the burning 20-something questions that we have about life and careers. Ashley and I are both pursuing creative professions and right now it feels very easy to get discouraged and give up on the quest. It's always so great to hear wisdom from people who have made it to the point where they're doing work that they enjoy and are passionate about in life.
Fred was so great to talk with. His answers were real and honest and he made it a point to tell us that there really are no answers. Ashley and I were both taking notes during our chat and we walked away with some really powerful nuggets of wisdom.
Here are some of our favorites:
-Know what you want to do.
-Work is like dating, you never know when the frog is going ot turn into a prince.
-Where do you wanna be? Get as close to it as you can.
-Work around creative people.
-Be open to experiences.
-Be happy in the work hours more so than in the play hours because you only get so many play hours a day.
-Find a job at a place you like.
-Hold your breath, close your eyes and jump in - the water won't be too cold.
-Stop looking for the right thing and start looking for something.
-Network!
-To really succeed you have to be too stupid to think you can't.
That last one was my personal favorite, so I decided to do some art based off of it.
