11.12.11 // it's picture day, people

So, I'm in a band. With my neighbor. Her name's Jamie. She lives in a trailer too at the art collective where I currently reside. She's going to be a famous author someday very, very soon. Our band is called Picture Day and we're all about smearing positivity all over the face of this sometimes sad world. Here's one of our first video releases. Be sure to watch out for us, because we're kind of a big deal.

Well, I moved.. like two months ago.. ah.. I've been bad at this whole blogging thing lately! I'm going to get back on the bandwagon soon because exciting things are on the horizon! I want to document here in my little corner of the interweb. For now, let me just say that I'm living in an artist community. I made the big bad move over the border of Orange County into LA County in August and it's been great so far. I'm living in a back lot with two other mobile home dwellers - both painters - and it's been amazing and inspiring so far. It's so nice to meet other people that are living small, mobile lives!

I was living in someone's driveway before moving to where I am now. It was fine for what it was, but, more importantly, it really served to solidify my desire to live in my trailer full-time by helping me prove to myself that I could actually do it. After a few months there I definitely welcomed the change to a communal environment. Driveway living can be lonely!

I got up early yesterday to take some shots for my up and coming Etsy store (be on the lookout for a post about it very, very soon!!) and decided to snap a few photos of my living situation while I had my camera out. So, without further ado, may I present to you... my tiny little home on wheels (again.. I did a post on my trailer a while back, but these photos are better and more up to date!)

february 28, 2011 // home sweet trailer

Well, it's official. I'm living in my trailer. I found a family on (where else but) Craigslist willing to put me up in their driveway with an electrical outlet and use of their bathroom and kitchen - perfect! I really like my trailer. I spent about a week and half before coming back to Connecticut for the holidays solely working on getting the trailer in living condition. I cleaned it up, repainted the interior, decorated, got some scented candles for ambiance (and, of course, a smoke detector) and now it's as cozy as can be. Here are a few shots of the interior.

I found two of these great owl wall hangings at a Goodwill in Montana for something like $2.00 a piece. I've definitely seen something similar at Urban Outfitters for close to $40.00 each!

I love candles.. they just make me feel more at home. I made some lanterns out of mason jars, wire and twine. They were super easy to make and actually give off a good amount of light!

I got these postcards (art pieces to me...) for free at a local art walk a few months ago. I especially love the bear.

My friend Jason passed on these old photo slides to me. I've wanted to do something with them for a while, but wasn't sure how I could use them. The other day, I was holding one of the slides up in front of me. The sun from outside shone through the slide and made the picture visible. This gave me the idea of hanging the slides in front of one of my trailer windows.

december 16, 2010 // trailer trash

Inspired by the time I spent living in an RV as a Roadie with Roadtrip Nation as well as the likes of my friend Jason over at Airstream Architect, Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky and this article over at Matador Network by Misty Tosh.. not to mention the fact that paying rent makes me want to cry.. I have decided to buy a vintage travel trailer. Yep, I recently bought myself a 1965 Aristocrat Lo-Liner! She's a hidden beauty.. just begging for a makeover ("Dee, would you look at that girl, she is so adorably clueless. We’ve got to adopt her."). She's got it all - well, almost.. a stove with an oven, a couch that turns into a bed, lots of storage, and a dining table. The only thing missing is a bathroom, but I found creative ways around not having one on Roadie tour and I'm sure that I can do it again! Her and I have big plans for the future that I'll share with you at a later time. My camera battery is dead, but there will be before-and-after photos coming soon! Until then, here are some decor ideas I'm thinking about.

I really want my trailer to have a cozy lodge feeling.. so I'm thinking lots of candlelight (don't worry, I bought a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher) and natural elements like wood and plants. I love this DIY curtain rod idea from diyideas.com. Also, how warm and inviting are these mason jar lanterns from Design*Sponge?! Definitely another project I'd like to try out!

The trailer has two lights inside that run off of a boat battery. They work well, but don't really go with the rest of the decor I'm envisioning. That's why I was super excited when I found a tutorial on Crafty Nest for hemp pendent lamps.. I'll use them to go over the existing lights. They'll definitely go with the woodsy look I'm going for. As for pillows.. who doesn't love a novelty pillow? I'm going to try my hand at creating my own version of these plush logs made by myimaginaryboyfriend.

I love this clock!!! Yes, yes.. it's made of wood.. and yes.. I like that.. A LOT. The tutorial on Craft: looks like it wouldn't be too hard to make! I haven't had a mobile since my days as a crib-dweller, but I can't deny the relaxing affect they have on me. There's no tutorial for the mobile online.. just pretty pictures of the finished product on spoolsewing.com, but those birds don't look too hard to stitch! Once I get my camera up and running, I'll be sure to post some before photos!
